Power steering tank leaking

MessageAuthor

After receiving my car back from a service some time ago I was advised that there was a slight leak from the power steering tank and a suspect fault with the hose. This looks pretty simple to change. Has anybody any advice? Thanks.

There's a known issue with these - they leak around the plastic seam in the middle of the bottle. I'm on my fourth now and they seem to be getting worse. First one lasted for 3+ years, was changed by local dealer, then RT Mechanics changed one at 84,000 service and the new one had gone again at the 96,000 service (last one replaced under warranty as less than a year old). Always a chance it's just a loose pipe but given my history I'd put money on it being the bottle itself - not enough money to replace it mind you :) Tony

Thanks for the info. It does appear as though it's losing a very small amount from the end of the hose that goes into the bottle. I might take off the old fitting around the hose and replace it with a jubilee clip. I wouldn't have thought a replacement reservoir would be that expensive? Cheers

Hi all I had a similar problem - except mine was leaking from the top under the cap. I have wound some PTF tape around the top thread and seems to have cured the problem - no leaks for the last 4 months.

Hi Vipes No fear - I realised it was leaking after I had cleaned the engine bay and noticed the leak a week later when doing my oil/washer fluid checks - topped up to the max - applied the PTF tape - no problems since with any leakage or wierd sounds from the Power-steering (not that I had any to start with!) Regards
